Birmingham rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.
Key rule: In Birmingham, trailers, commercial vehicles and vehicles over 6,000 pounds gross weight may park, stand or stop on public ways in residence districts only for the expeditious unloading and delivery or pickup and loading of materials.
In Birmingham, City Code Section 10-9-16 limits trailers, commercial vehicles (defined as vehicles designed, maintained or used primarily to transport property) and vehicles over 6,000 pounds gross weight on residential streets to the expeditious loading and unloading of materials, and treats one parked there between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. as prima facie evidence of a violation. A debris dumpster or other temporary closure of a street, sidewalk or city right-of-way needs a Temporary Traffic Control permit from the Birmingham Department of Transportation. Parked vehicles must leave at least ten feet of roadway open, and vehicles, boats and trailers may not sit in a front yard unless they are on a paved, permitted driveway.
