What the crew handles

  • Carrying boxes and furniture from the home to the truck or container
  • Building a stable load with heavy items low and forward and gaps filled
  • Wrapping furniture with pads you or the crew supply (confirmed at booking)
  • Basic disassembly of beds and tables when agreed in advance
  • Securing the load with straps or rope that's on hand

What you arrange

  • The truck, trailer or container, delivered or parked before the crew arrives
  • Driving it to the destination, plus fuel, tolls and return
  • Parking or right-of-way permits the city requires for the vehicle
  • Packed, taped and labeled boxes unless you've booked packing

Who it's for

  • People renting a truck who want help carrying and loading
  • Anyone with a portable storage container dropped in the driveway or on the street
  • People who will drive themselves and only need help at the starting address
  • People who will unload later with friends or a separate crew

What gets confirmed before your move

These details change how long the job takes. We agree on them in writing before we schedule a crew.

  • The truck or container size, and whether it will actually hold your inventory
  • Where it will park and the walking distance from your door
  • Stairs, elevators and any building move-in rules at your address
  • Which items need disassembly, and who supplies the tools
  • Anything heavy or fragile that needs special handling

How to prepare

  • Finish packing before the crew arrives. Loose items slow loading more than anything else.
  • Reserve a parking spot as close to the door as legally possible, with a permit if your city needs one
  • Empty drawers in dressers and desks so they can be carried safely
  • Group boxes by room near the exit, keeping walkways clear
  • Set aside anything you'll transport yourself, like valuables, documents, medication and pets

Equipment and materials

You provide

  • The truck, trailer or container, with the loading ramp or lift working
  • Packed boxes, tape and labels
  • Mattress bags or TV boxes if you want those items covered

Confirm when you book

  • Whether the crew brings furniture pads, a hand truck and straps, or uses yours
  • Whether tools for disassembly are included
  • Whether shrink-wrap or extra materials are billed separately

What affects time and price

Labor is priced by time and crew size. We haven't published rates, minimums or fees yet. This list shows what changes the number of hours.

  • Home size and how full it isA lightly furnished two-bedroom loads much faster than a full one with a garage.
  • Stairs and elevatorsEach flight adds carrying time. A shared elevator can add a lot of waiting.
  • Carry distanceA truck in the driveway is quick. A long walk from street parking takes much longer.
  • Packing readinessSealed, uniform boxes stack quickly. Loose items and bags take much longer.
  • DisassemblyBed frames, sectionals and desks take time to take apart and protect.
  • Heavy itemsVery heavy items may need extra crew or a specialist.

Specialty and heavy items

Large appliances, pianos, safes, slate pool tables and heavy fitness equipment change the crew size and the risk. List them in the planner so we can check them before move day.

We check pianos, safes, gym equipment, pool tables, hot tubs and anything over about 300 lb one at a time. Some may need a specialist.

Questions about loading

Do you provide the truck?

No. GoodHands is moving labor only. You rent or own the truck, trailer or container and do the driving. The crew handles carrying and loading.

Can the crew drive my rental truck?

No. Driving isn't part of the service. Plan for you or someone on your rental agreement to drive.

How do I know if my truck is big enough?

Rental companies publish rough guides by home size. The planner asks for your truck size and home size. It warns you if the truck looks too small. If it's close, rent the bigger truck.

What if I'm not finished packing?

Tell us in the planner. Unpacked rooms add time, and you may want to add packing help.
