Huntsville rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.
Key rule: In Huntsville, a portable storage container on a residential lot needs a portable storage structure permit from zoning administration before it is placed, and it may not encroach on public property or public rights-of-way.
In Huntsville, a portable storage container (POD) on a residential lot without an active building permit needs a $10 conditional permit from zoning administration before placement, must sit at least ten feet back from the front property line and out of the right-of-way, and each lot is limited to three 30-day permits in any 12 months. On the street, motor vehicles over 20 feet long may park only where parallel parking is allowed, parked vehicles must leave at least ten feet of roadway, and goods or other articles may not encumber a street or sidewalk except under a city building permit. The zoning code also bars keeping household trucks or commercial vehicles over 9,000 pounds GVWR on a residential lot.
