Key rule: In Mobile, only one temporary portable storage unit is allowed per residential lot, for no more than 60 days and two occasions in a calendar year, and it may not be placed in a right-of-way without engineering/traffic engineering approval.
In Mobile, the Unified Development Code allows one temporary portable storage unit (up to 400 square feet) per residential lot, for no more than 60 days and two occasions a calendar year, and keeps it out of the right-of-way unless engineering/traffic engineering approves; units placed during a declared emergency are exempt. City Code Section 61-278 treats vehicles at least 20 feet long and 8 feet high, or 25 feet long, as large vehicles and limits them to four hours where surrounding property is zoned R-1, R-2 or R-3, except while being constantly loaded and unloaded. Semi-trucks may not park in residential districts unless actively serving a customer, parked vehicles must leave at least ten feet of roadway, and the city's hurricane page notes the season runs June 1 through November 30.
