Do I need a permit to block the street with a moving truck in Fort Smith?

If the stopped truck or trailer leaves less than 12 feet open for traffic (a total obstruction), Section 24-122 requires a permit from the chief of police. In nonresidential areas, even a partial obstruction needs a permit between 7:45 and 8:45 a.m. and between 4:00 and 5:30 p.m.

How do I get a street obstruction permit in Fort Smith, and what does it cost?

Applications are received at the police department between 7:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. The chief of police issues the permit when exceptional conditions exist, and it is free. A permit can cover a set period each day for up to 30 consecutive days.

No more than 72 hours continuously on the public right-of-way (Section 24-108), which covers trailers and boats on trailers as well as other vehicles.
