Athens rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.
Key rule: In Athens, dumpsters can't be parked or placed in a road right-of-way and no permit will be issued for one, and temporary storage units are on the same prohibited list.
Athens-Clarke County requires a right-of-way encroachment permit from Transportation and Public Works to place any item in a road right-of-way, but parking or placing a dumpster there is expressly prohibited with no permit available, and temporary storage units are on the same prohibited list. In RS-15, RS-8 and RS-5 single-family zones, no trailer may be parked on the street or right-of-way, even when attached to a vehicle, and trucks or trailers over ten tons may be parked in or next to any single-family zone for no more than an hour, not counting loading time. Within the fire limits, trucks or trailers longer than 35 feet may not park on the street from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and loading zones are reserved for vehicles identified as delivery or pickup vehicles.
