Savannah rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.
Key rule: In Savannah, blocking any part of a street, lane, shoulder or sidewalk takes a Right-of-Way Permit from the Traffic Engineering Office, which has a $45 application fee.
In Savannah, any obstruction of a street, lane, shoulder or sidewalk needs a Right-of-Way Permit from Traffic Engineering ($45 application fee, and 24 hours' notice to close a minor residential street), and a portable storage unit for loading or unloading household goods can stay up to 30 consecutive days and needs an approved right-of-way permit to sit in the right-of-way. The code limits parking of vehicles over 20 feet or 10,000 pounds, and of trailers and semitrailers, on streets next to residential lots, with an exception for commercial vehicles being loaded or unloaded and, under a separate section, for moving-company vehicles serving a home. Stops in commercial freight loading zones are capped at 30 minutes unless loading is actively underway.
