Independence rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.
Key rule: In Independence, a trailer may be parked on a street in a residence district only while it is actually and continuously being loaded or unloaded.
Independence's traffic code bars trucks, trailers, recreational vehicles and similar vehicles from parking on residential streets except while they are actively being loaded or unloaded; trucks licensed for 12,000 pounds or less are allowed, and the code defines a truck as a vehicle over 18,000 pounds. Closing any part of a street needs a permit from the Director, and dumpsters placed in the street can require a street closure permit with lighted barricades. During a declared snow parking emergency, vehicles must be off marked emergency routes within two hours.
