Parking and permits

Joplin rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.

Key rule: In Joplin, a utility trailer, open or closed, or a boxed trailer may not be parked on any street for more than 72 consecutive hours.

Joplin's traffic code limits utility and boxed trailers, boats, motor homes and campers to 72 consecutive hours on a street, and it bars trucks, tractors and trailers with a capacity over 18,000 pounds from street parking between midnight and 6 a.m., with such trailers allowed on the street only while loading or unloading. Backing a vehicle to the curb to load or unload takes a written permit from the city traffic engineer, good for no more than 24 hours at a time. Blocking a street, sidewalk or right-of-way with a vehicle, trailer, box or other object is a misdemeanor without the public works director's prior consent, and the city's snow plan does not plow residential streets.
