Key rule: In Helena, trailers, recreational vehicles, boats and other stored items may not be parked or stored in the public right-of-way between November 1 and April 15 unless the city has issued a permit.
In Helena, the city code bars trailers, recreational vehicles, boats and other stored items from the public right-of-way from November 1 to April 15 unless the City Manager issues a permit, including a short-term permit of up to 72 hours for extraordinary circumstances. Trucks, trailers and any vehicle over a three-quarter-ton GVW limit may park beside residential-zoned blocks only for expeditious loading or unloading, but that rule does not apply while they are actively moving household goods. When NOAA predicts two inches or more of snow, parking is banned on designated emergency snow routes from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and any vehicle left on a city street for more than 72 hours without being moved is declared abandoned.
