Parking and permits

Renton rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.

Key rule: In Renton, a large moving truck (commercially licensed or over 12,000 pounds) may park on a residential street only for the time reasonably needed to support the move, and any private use of the right-of-way, such as a container, needs a Right-of-Way Permit.

Renton requires a Right-of-Way Permit for any private use of the public right-of-way. Commercially licensed vehicles and vehicles over 12,000 pounds may not park on fully residential blocks, but those supporting a move are exempt for the time reasonably needed; otherwise they face a two-hour limit. Trailers other than recreation trailers may not park in residential zones from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., and no vehicle may stay on a street for more than 72 hours.
