Parking and permits

Vancouver rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.

Key rule: In Vancouver, a portable storage container (POD) placed in the street needs a City street use permit, while trailers and trucks over 9,000 pounds may not park on residential streets except for a reasonable time to load or unload.

In Vancouver, a temporary storage unit such as a POD needs a City street use permit to sit in the public right-of-way; at a single-family home it belongs in the driveway or on another paved surface, and it can stay up to 30 days without a permit. Trailers, motor homes and trucks over 9,000 pounds gross weight capacity cannot park on residential streets, but the code allows a reasonable amount of time for loading and unloading. No vehicle may stay parked on a street longer than 24 hours, and the city does not deice or plow neighborhood residential streets.
