Parking and permits

Tahoe City rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.

Key rule: In Tahoe City, which is unincorporated, Placer County's winter rule applies: parking on county roads and their shoulders is banned from November 1 to May 1, though a vehicle stopped briefly while actively loading or unloading is not counted as parked under that rule.

Tahoe City is unincorporated, so Placer County's code applies. From November 1 to May 1 the county bans parking on public roadways and their shoulders in its eastern snow area, which the county's annual notice says includes North Lake Tahoe, with fines of $150, $250 and $450 for repeat violations; a vehicle actively loading or unloading for a short time is not 'parked' under that rule, but it must never block a snowplow. Year-round, county code bans parking on sidewalks or within 20 feet of a crosswalk and makes it unlawful to obstruct a county road.
