Melbourne rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.
Key rule: In Melbourne, a portable storage unit (POD) can stay at a home for no more than 14 days, twice a year, and must be removed at least 24 hours before forecast winds of 75 mph or more.
Melbourne allows a portable storage unit in residential districts for up to 14 days, no more than twice a year; units can be at most 8 by 8 by 16 feet, must not block pedestrian or vehicle traffic, and must be removed at least 24 hours before predicted winds of 75 mph or more. Trucks and heavy equipment may not be parked on public or private property in residential districts, but the ban does not cover vehicles rated 10,000 pounds or less or people doing authorized work or immediate pickup or delivery at the property, and stopping while actually loading or unloading is not counted as parking. Driving over a sidewalk or curb anywhere but a driveway needs a building permit and a right-of-way use permit.
