Palm Bay rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.
Key rule: In Palm Bay, a portable storage unit (POD) can sit at a home without a permit for up to 14 consecutive days, twice a year, but it may not go in the right-of-way or an easement and the vendor must notify the city.
Palm Bay allows one temporary storage unit per residential lot without a permit, up to 10 by 24 by 9 feet, for at most 14 consecutive days and two placements a year; it may not sit in a right-of-way or easement, and the vendor must notify the city. The parking code does not bar temporary parking while a vehicle is being loaded or unloaded, though it should be kept in the driveway where possible, and commercial vehicles of Class 4 and up are banned in residential districts, with an exception for up to eight hours while providing business or commercial services at the property. During a storm watch or warning, the city asks residents not to put materials at the curb.

Palm Bay moving questions
Do I need a permit for a POD in Palm Bay?
Not for a standard placement. Palm Bay allows one temporary storage unit per residential lot without a permit if it meets the code's criteria: no larger than 10 by 24 by 9 feet, no more than 14 consecutive days, at most two placements a year, not in a right-of-way or easement, and the vendor notifies the city.
Can a POD go in the street or swale in Palm Bay?
No. The code says a temporary storage unit shall not be placed in any right-of-way or easement and must not create a site obstruction for vehicle or pedestrian traffic.
Can a rental moving truck park at a Palm Bay home on move day?
Temporary parking while actually loading or unloading a vehicle is not prohibited by the parking chapter, but the vehicle must be kept in the driveway where possible. Larger commercial vehicles (Class 4 trucks and up) are banned in residential districts except, among other exceptions, for up to eight hours while providing business or commercial services at the property.
What should I do with move-out debris if a hurricane is coming to Palm Bay?
During a watch or warning, the city says not to place materials at the curb or take them to the landfill or transfer facility, since services may be suspended.
