Urbana rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.
Key rule: In Urbana, a dumpster or portable storage container may sit in the public right-of-way only with a right-of-way permit from the city engineer, who issues one only when there is no available space on the property being served.
Urbana requires a right-of-way permit from the city engineer to keep a dumpster or portable storage container in the right-of-way, and the property owner or occupant applies; the permit is issued only when there is no room for the container on the lot. On residential-district streets, trucks licensed over three-quarter-ton capacity may not park except for stays under four consecutive hours, and unhitched trailers may not be parked or stored. Streets in the West Urbana Parking Zone are permit-only from 3 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays.
