Marion rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.
Key rule: In Marion, large pick-up or panel trucks over one ton, other large commercial vehicles, semi-trucks and semitrailers are among the vehicles not permitted to be parked in residential or commercial districts.
Marion's city code keeps trucks over one ton, other large commercial vehicles, semi-trucks and semitrailers from parking in residential or commercial districts, bars unhitched pull-trailers from the street, and allows RVs, campers and boats only on an approved surface off the street. Commercial vehicles can stay on a street no more than two hours in any 24 except to load and unload, and street sweeping restrictions apply as posted from April 1 to October 1. Within two hours of a snow emergency declared by the Mayor, cars must be off snow emergency routes or they can be towed.

Marion moving questions
Can a moving truck park on a residential street in Marion?
The code lists large pick-up or panel trucks over one ton, other large commercial vehicles, semi-trucks, truck-tractors, semitrailers and buses among vehicles not permitted to be parked in residential or commercial districts. Separately, a commercial vehicle may not be parked on any street more than two hours in any 24-hour period except to load and unload. The code does not define commercial vehicle, so whether a rental truck counts isn't settled by the text.

A pull-trailer that isn't hitched to an operable vehicle may not be parked in the street. RVs, campers and boats may be parked only on an approved surface connected to the driveway, street or alley, not in the street.
How long can a car stay parked on a Marion street?
One section lists parking on any street for more than 24 continuous hours (except Saturdays, Sundays and holidays) as prohibited, while another requires a City Traffic Department permit to park more than 96 consecutive hours.
What happens if Marion declares a snow emergency on moving day?
Within two hours after the Mayor declares a snow emergency, no vehicle may be parked or left on a snow emergency route, police may tow vehicles left there at the owner's expense, and the Mayor may add other streets as snow routes.
Does Marion have street sweeping parking rules?
Yes. From April 1 to October 1, parking on city streets is prohibited at the times and days posted for street sweeping.
