South Bend rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.
Key rule: In South Bend, a commercial dumpster or roll-off container in the street, parking lane, alley or tree lawn needs an Occupancy Permit, and residents can't apply for it themselves: a dumpster company bonded with the city files it for them.
In South Bend, placing a commercial dumpster or roll-off container in the public right-of-way needs an Occupancy Permit, which a city-bonded dumpster company applies for on the resident's behalf. The city code bars commercial vehicles, which it defines to include every truck and truck trailer, from parking on public streets overnight (7 p.m. to 6 a.m.) and on Sundays and holidays except while loading or unloading, and trucks whose declared empty weight exceeds 11,000 pounds may park on streets next to residential districts only for loading, unloading or servicing. Any vehicle on a city street must be moved every three days, and declared snow removal conditions ban parking on snow routes or restrict it to one side of other streets.
