Parking and permits

Louisville rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.

Key rule: In Louisville, Metro code makes it a parking violation to leave a commercial or industrial vehicle, bus, or trailer on a public way except while it is actually being loaded or unloaded or the driver is in the cab.

In Louisville, Metro Public Works issues a Pod or Dumpster Permit through its online Business Portal, and the Metro code says moving vans or trucks that must stay in a residential permit parking zone for more than 24 hours need a special permit. The code bans leaving commercial vehicles or trailers on a public way except during active loading or unloading, bars parking or storing non-self-propelled devices such as trailers on the street, and treats parking anywhere for 24 hours or longer as a violation. During a declared snow emergency no vehicle may stay on a snow emergency route, and neighborhood streets off the Metro snow routes are not plowed by Metro crews.
