Annapolis rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.
Key rule: In Annapolis, vehicles over 80 inches wide or 23 feet long (or over 16,000 lb GVWR) may not park on streets in or around residential zones unless you have a Public Works street-blocking permit or a Transportation reserved-parking permit, so measure the truck before move day.
In Annapolis, the code bars vehicles over 16,000 pounds GVWR, 80 inches wide or 23 feet long from parking on residential streets, and trailers from parking on any city street, with exemptions through a Public Works street-blocking permit or a Department of Transportation reserved-parking permit. The Department of Transportation's special parking permit can reserve up to five spaces outside the historic district (three inside), must be applied for three business days ahead, and is posted by the city at least 48 hours before it starts. Vehicles may not sit on a street for more than 48 hours (with exemptions), and snow emergency routes are cleared during Phase II and III of the snow plan.

Annapolis moving questions
Can I reserve street parking for a moving truck in Annapolis?
The Department of Transportation may grant a special parking permit to owners of vehicles used to transport merchandise or materials, reserving up to five spaces outside the historic district or three inside it. Apply at least three business days ahead; the city posts approved permits at least 48 hours before they take effect, and the spaces may be used only for parking, loading and unloading.
Is my rental truck too big to park on an Annapolis residential street?
It may be. City Code 12.20.100 makes it illegal to park on streets in or around residential zones a vehicle with a GVWR over 16,000 pounds, or one more than 80 inches wide (not counting side mirrors and fender flares) or 23 feet long. Exemptions can come from a Public Works street-blocking permit or a Department of Transportation reserved-parking permit.
Can I park a rental trailer on the street in Annapolis?
Not unless the chapter allows it. City Code 12.20.110 bars trailers from any public street, lane or alley in the city, attached to the towing vehicle or not.
Do I need a separate permit for a POD or dumpster in the street?
The special parking permit only covers parking, loading and unloading of motor vehicles and does not replace a street obstruction permit where one is required.
What happens if it snows on moving day in Annapolis?
No vehicle may park on a designated snow emergency route while Phase II or Phase III of the snow emergency plan is in effect.
