Parking and permits

Hagerstown rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.

Key rule: In Hagerstown, portable storage containers, including pods, are allowed by permit only in commercial or industrial zones, so plan a move around a rental truck rather than a pod at a home in a residential area.

In Hagerstown, the Portable Storage Container Ordinance allows pods and similar containers only temporarily in commercial or industrial zones with a city permit, and violations carry a $500 fine per day. Trucks, trailers and larger commercial vehicles are limited to four hours on any street and one hour in front of homes, though commercial trucks doing work within a block are exempt; camping and homemade trailers are limited to 24 hours, and saving a parking space with cones or other items is not allowed. During a snow emergency parking prohibition, snow emergency routes must be kept clear.
