Parking and permits

Worcester rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.

Key rule: In Worcester, a commercial vehicle, bus or trailer weighing 11,000 pounds or more may not park on a residentially zoned street for more than one hour between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m., though it may stay longer while actually being loaded or unloaded.

Worcester's ordinances require a written permit from the commissioner of public works to place any obstruction in a street, and the DPW&P Engineering fee schedule lists a street obstruction permit at $156 each. Heavy commercial vehicles and trailers of 11,000 pounds or more are limited to one hour on residential streets between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m., except while actually loading or unloading. From December 1 through April 30 a permanent overnight ban (2 a.m. to 6 a.m.) covers emergency arteries and bus routes, and declared bans on other streets usually leave parking on only one side.
