Parking and permits

Troy rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.

Key rule: In Troy, a commercial vehicle, truck or trailer may not park on a residential street for more than one hour unless it is being used to deliver or pick up goods, and then only as long as the job takes.

Troy's traffic code limits commercial vehicles, trucks and trailers to one hour on residential streets unless they are delivering or picking up goods, and bans parking on the lawn strip between the curb and the lot line. The right-of-way code bars placing objects in the street except as the chapter allows, but it does not prohibit temporary obstructions incidental to moving things to and from a home. Since 2024 the city can declare snow emergencies once snowfall exceeds four inches; street parking is then banned until the road is plowed, with fines up to $75.
