Parking and permits

Reno rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.

Key rule: In Reno, city code bars standing or parking a vehicle or trailer longer than 24 feet, or taller or wider than eight feet, on any street at any time except to pick up or drop off passengers, and a POD or dumpster in the street needs a city encroachment permit.

In Reno, city code makes it unlawful to stand or park a vehicle or trailer longer than 24 feet, or more than eight feet tall or wide, on any street, highway or alley at any time except while picking up or discharging passengers. Placing a mobile storage container or large dumpster in the public right-of-way requires a temporary encroachment permit, applied for at least 24 hours ahead, with cones around the container and no blocking of property access, restricted parking areas or red zones. Streets inside a residential permit parking district need a displayed zone permit, and in winter the city asks residents to park off the street whenever possible before forecast storms.
