Parking and permits

Edison rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.

Key rule: In Edison, trucks over four tons, RVs, campers, boats and trailers may not be parked on any street in a residential zone from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., so a large rental truck or trailer has to be off the street overnight.

In Edison Township, trucks over four tons gross vehicle weight, buses, RVs, campers, boats and trailers may not be parked on residential-zone streets between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. Placing anything in a street or public place, such as a container or materials, needs written permission from the Director of Public Works first. Once snow covers the street, parking is banned on all public streets in the township until they have been plowed.

Edison moving questions

Can I park a rental moving truck or trailer on my street overnight in Edison?

Not if it is a truck over four tons gross vehicle weight or a trailer. Edison's code bars those, along with buses, RVs, campers and boats, from all streets in residential zones between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Do I need permission to put a storage container or other items in the street?

Yes. The code says no one may obstruct a street or public place by placing building materials or any other articles there without first getting written permission from the Director of Public Works.

Can movers park on a permit-only street in Edison?

Contractor, service and delivery vehicles marked with a business name and address may park without a permit while serving a residence in the zone. Guests with a visitor hang tag may park for up to three days.

What if it snows on moving day?

Once snow covers the street, no vehicles may be parked on any public street in Edison Township, and the ban lasts until streets are plowed enough that parking won't block traffic.
