Parking and permits

Fair Lawn rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.

Key rule: In Fair Lawn, a POD or other portable storage container at a home needs a Zoning Department permit and may not be placed in any public right-of-way, roadway or sidewalk.

Fair Lawn requires a Zoning Department permit for any POD at a residential property; it must sit on the lawn, driveway or an approved paved area at least 10 feet from the curb, never in the street or on the sidewalk, and a moving POD may stay up to 14 days to load and 14 days to unload. Once snow covers the street, parking is banned on listed snow streets until they are plowed, and during a declared emergency parking is banned wherever temporary EMERGENCY NO PARKING signs are posted. The Chief of Police can allow temporary street parking for exceptional hardship, and two consecutive nights can be requested by phone through the Police Communications Center.
