Salem rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.
Key rule: In Salem, city code bars parking a vehicle, or a vehicle-and-trailer combination, longer than 23 feet or wider than eight feet on a residential street except while it is actually loading or unloading cargo.
In Salem, a vehicle or vehicle-and-trailer combination over 23 feet long or eight feet wide may sit on a residential street only while it is actually loading or unloading, and a trailer can't be left on the street unhooked from the vehicle towing it. No vehicle may stay in the same street spot for more than five days, and alley parking is limited to 30 minutes of loading or unloading. In the Downtown Parking District, a temporary on-street parking permit reserves spaces for loading or unloading longer than 30 minutes or for a residential dumpster; it costs $15 per space per day, and the city keeps at least 60% of the block's spaces open.
