Charlottesville rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.
Key rule: In Charlottesville, you can reserve public parking spaces for large vehicles, overnight parking or storage PODs through a Temporary Parking Spot Closure permit from Traffic Engineering, applied for on the city's permit portal.
In Charlottesville, Traffic Engineering's Temporary Parking Spot Closure permit reserves public spaces for large vehicles, overnight parking and storage PODs. City Code Section 15-144 bans certain vehicles, including trailers over 20 feet and any vehicle or trailer with more than two wheels per axle, from city streets between midnight and 6 a.m. unless they have a city parking permit. In residential permit parking areas a permit is required during the posted hours, which by default run 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays in many zones, with an exemption for marked commercial vehicles doing business at a nearby home.
