Richmond rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.
Key rule: In Richmond, trucks over 6,500 pounds empty weight and all trailers are barred from parking on residential blocks unless they are being actively loaded or unloaded, and permits for a residential move come from the Public Works Parking Division.
In Richmond, the Police permits page sends anyone needing a parking permit for a residential move to the Parking Division at (804) 646-3684, and posted no-parking signs must be up at least 48 hours ahead. City Code Section 27-203 bars motor vehicles over 6,500 pounds empty weight, trailers and motor homes from residential blocks, but exempts vehicles being actively loaded or unloaded, and moving is an approved use for a permit to bag parking meters. In the Fan and Carver restricted parking districts, permit holders can buy $10 temporary guest passes good for up to ten days.
