Chico rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.
Key rule: In Chico, any object other than a vehicle placed in a public right-of-way so that it obstructs it, such as a portable storage container, counts as an encroachment, and encroaching without an approved city permit is unlawful.
Chico treats any non-vehicle object placed so it obstructs a public right-of-way as an encroachment that needs an approved city permit. Commercial vehicles rated 10,000 pounds or more may not park in residential districts between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. unless making a pickup or delivery of goods to a building there, and no vehicle or trailer may sit on a street for more than 168 hours. In preferential parking areas, vehicles of people providing services to a property, including delivery vehicles, are exempt, and Chico State's halls close for winter break on December 18, 2026 and for summer on May 21, 2027.
