Parking and permits

Marietta rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.

Key rule: In Marietta, a portable storage container can stay at a home for only 14 days a year without a building permit, and it has to sit in the driveway, never in the public right-of-way.

Marietta's zoning code limits a portable storage unit at a residential property to 14 days a year without a building permit (extendable up to 60 days with Development Services permission), keeps it in the driveway at the point furthest from the street, and bars it from the public right-of-way. Business vehicles of 8,000 pounds GVWR or more may park on residentially zoned property only in daylight on weekdays, trailers and recreational vehicles may not park in front of a house, and every vehicle must park on a hardened surface. Trucks of eight tons or more are kept off local streets unless the destination can't be reached any other way, and partial road closures are allowed only 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays.
