Parking and permits

Rome rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.

Key rule: In Rome, a business vehicle, which the code defines as a company-owned vehicle used for business purposes such as transporting goods, may not park in the street right-of-way in a residential district, though pickups, panel trucks, vans and vehicles carrying less than one and one-half tons are exempt.

Rome's code bars business vehicles, including those with more than two axles, from parking on streets in residential districts, with exemptions for passenger cars, pickups, panel trucks, commuter vans and vehicles under one and one-half tons. Any vehicle parked on a street must leave at least ten feet of roadway open, and anything placed in a street or on a sidewalk needs the city's permission, though goods may sit on the sidewalk only as long as needed for delivery. Downtown, on-street parking is limited to three hours on weekdays and Saturdays, loading zones allow 20 minutes, and the Broad Street center-lane loading zones close from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
