Chicago Heights rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.
Key rule: In Chicago Heights, unless it is tied to a valid building permit, a temporary storage container may stay on a lot no more than 7 consecutive days, no more than twice in a calendar year.
Chicago Heights' zoning code allows one temporary storage container per lot, kept in a side or rear yard, no bigger than 825 cubic feet or 180 square feet, and, without a building permit, for no more than 7 consecutive days twice a year. Overnight parking of the commercial vehicles and trailers covered by the city's commercial-vehicle rule is not allowed on city streets, alleys or vacant lots, and no one may obstruct a street, alley or sidewalk without authorization. During a snowstorm and for eight hours after the snow stops, vehicles parked illegally on designated arterial ways are towed, though trucks may be allowed up to 30 minutes to load or unload.
