Chicago rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.
Key rule: In Chicago, trucks, vans and trailers may not park on residential streets at any time, including overnight, except while they are actually and expeditiously being loaded or unloaded.
In Chicago, the Municipal Code bars trucks, vans and trailers from parking on residential streets at any time, including overnight, with an exception only while the vehicle is actually and expeditiously being loaded or unloaded. Dumpsters placed on the public way need a CDOT DOT Dumpster permit applied for through the city's online permit portal. From December 1 to April 1, a 3 am to 7 am parking ban applies on 107 miles of arterial streets, and a separate ban on another 500 miles of main streets can be activated after two inches of snow. Residential Parking Zones are posted on many blocks, and residents can buy 24-hour guest daily permits.
