Parking and permits

DeKalb rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.

Key rule: In DeKalb, vehicles longer than 25 feet may not park on streets in residentially zoned districts unless the owner, operator or occupant is actively loading or unloading them.

DeKalb's traffic code bars vehicles over 25 feet long from parking on residential-district streets unless they are actively being loaded or unloaded, and a vehicle in violation can be towed after four consecutive hours on the same street. Trailers may not park on public streets except during authorized construction or when attached to a motor vehicle. In winter, parking is automatically banned on snow routes once 2 inches of snow and ice accumulate, and after the routes are deactivated, cars on every city street must be moved within 48 hours so the street can be plowed.
