In Kansas City, Kansas, the Unified Government code bars vehicles rated over three-quarters of a ton from residential streets and alleys, with an exception for standing or parking while loading or unloading. Trailers may not be parked or stored in the roadway or between the curb and the property line, and a dumpster placed in the street or right-of-way needs a Public Works permit and must sit on a paved surface. Kansas City moving questions

Can a rental moving truck park on a residential street in Kansas City, Kansas?

Unified Government Code Sec. 35-491 bars vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating over three-quarters of a ton from standing or parking on residential streets and alleys, but it allows a vehicle to stand or park while it is being loaded or unloaded, subject to the other parking rules. Check the GVWR listed for your rental.

Can I leave a rental trailer on the street in Kansas City, Kansas?

No. Sec. 35-483 says no trailer or semitrailer of any kind may be parked or stored in the roadway or between the property line or sidewalk and the curb.

Do I need a permit for a dumpster in the street?

Yes. Public Works requires a dumpster permit when the dumpster is placed in the right-of-way or on the public street; none is needed on private property. The application is online, asks for the dumpster company and size, and the dumpster must sit on an improved paved surface.

Can the truck park in the alley behind the house?

Only to load or unload. Sec. 35-482 bars parking in an alley except for loading or unloading, and for no longer than reasonably necessary.

How fast are residential streets plowed after snow?

Neighborhood Routes are plowed after Hot and Secondary Routes and generally take about 48 hours to plow or treat, longer if crews must go back to the main routes. Streets crowded with parked cars may not be plowed if plows can't get through safely.
