Parking and permits

Lenexa rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.

Key rule: In Lenexa, a commercial vehicle may not park on a street or private property in a residential zoning district for more than two consecutive hours, except while actively engaged in legitimate loading or unloading and in other listed cases.

In Lenexa, City Code Section 3-8-B-2 limits commercial vehicles to two consecutive hours on streets and private property in residential zoning districts, with exceptions that include active loading or unloading; the city counts a vehicle as commercial if it is over 10,000 pounds, more than 23 feet long, more than 8 feet tall or more than 9 feet wide, among other criteria. Any vehicle on a public street must move within 48 hours, an unhooked hauling trailer may not be left on public property for more than 48 consecutive hours, and boats, trailers and RVs may sit in a driveway for up to four days in a 30-day period without a temporary permit. The city aims to have all streets plowed or treated within 48 hours after a winter storm ends.

How long can a moving truck park on a residential street in Lenexa?

Section 3-8-B-2 limits commercial vehicles to two consecutive hours on streets and private property in residential zoning districts, but exempts a commercial vehicle actively engaged in legitimate loading or unloading. The city counts a vehicle as commercial if it is over 10,000 pounds, more than 23 feet long, more than 8 feet tall or more than 9 feet wide, among other criteria.

Can I leave a rental trailer on the street?

Can a trailer sit in my driveway during the move?

The city says boats, trailers, motorhomes and RVs may be parked in a driveway for up to four days in every 30-day period; longer stays need a temporary parking permit. The code also allows them in a driveway for up to two consecutive hours for active loading or unloading.

How long can any car stay parked on a Lenexa street?

No more than 48 hours continuously on a public street or public property unless otherwise posted; the code says a mere change of location does not defeat this rule.
