North Charleston rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.
Key rule: In North Charleston, a portable storage unit at a home needs a permit from the zoning department, and one unit is allowed for no more than 30 days per calendar year while it is actively being loaded or unloaded.
In North Charleston, the zoning code requires a permit from the zoning department for a portable storage unit, allows one unit at a residence for up to 30 days a year (or two units for up to 14 days) while it is actively being loaded or unloaded, and keeps units out of roads and rights-of-way unless there is no other reasonable alternative. On the street, no vehicle may stay longer than 24 hours, a trailer must stay attached to its vehicle, and trucks over two-ton capacity may not be parked or left unattended on streets in R-1, R-2 or R-3 districts, although loading and unloading is not restricted. Stops in marked loading zones may not exceed 30 minutes.
