Charleston rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.
Key rule: In Charleston, a truck or other vehicle longer than 20 feet may not stay on a street for more than one hour except for the time needed to load or unload, and a trailer may not be parked on a street unless its vehicle stays attached.
In Charleston, the city code limits trucks and other vehicles over 20 feet long to one hour on a street, apart from the time needed for loading or unloading, and bars parking a trailer on a street unless the vehicle stays attached. Obstructing the right-of-way, including placing a dumpster on it, needs a permit from the Department of Traffic and Transportation, and the city's fee schedule adds $10 a day to any permit involving dumpsters or moving vehicles. In residential permit parking districts, homeowners can buy single-day visitor permit booklets and renters can get up to fourteen one-day visitor passes per six months.
