Parking and permits

Columbia rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.

Key rule: In Columbia, it is unlawful to park any trailer on the city's roads, streets or public ways except in spaces marked or designated by the City Manager.

Columbia's code makes it unlawful to park a trailer on city streets or public ways outside spaces the City Manager has marked or designated, with a $50.00 fine per violation, though the code's definition of parking excludes standing temporarily while loading or unloading merchandise. Under the zoning ordinance, large single- and double-axle trucks (over 90 inches wide and 12 feet tall) can't park on a street for more than four consecutive hours unless they're performing a service for a property owner, and tractor trailers can't be parked except for deliveries. Streets and sidewalks can't be used to store goods or materials.
