Parking and permits

Austin rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.

Key rule: In Austin, city code prohibits parking a trailer on a public street, and a moving container in the street needs a Transportation and Public Works parking permit requested at least 3 business days ahead.

In Austin, placing a temporary storage device such as a moving container in the right-of-way, or temporarily loading and unloading non-construction materials there, calls for a right-of-way parking permit from Austin Transportation and Public Works; the request is due at least 3 business days ahead, and a container setup needs two parking spaces and Type III barricades on both sides. City code bars parking a trailer on a public street and bars parking a vehicle over 9,000 pounds gross vehicle weight on streets with a speed limit of 30 mph or less, except while it is loading or unloading. The noise code bars making noise audible to an adjacent business or residence between 10:30 p.m. and 7 a.m.
