Charleston rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.
Key rule: In Charleston, a truck, trailer or other vehicle wider than 76 inches or taller than 78 inches, including its load, may not park on a city street for longer than two hours.
Charleston's traffic code limits any truck, trailer or other vehicle over 76 inches wide or 78 inches tall, load included, to two hours parked on a city street, and bars truck parking and deliveries from 4 to 6 p.m. in the downtown block bounded by Broad, Court and Washington streets and Kanawha Boulevard. Anything that obstructs travel on a street or sidewalk needs a permit from the street commissioner, and goods may not be left on a street or sidewalk for more than two hours. In residential permit parking areas, delivery and service vehicles may park without a permit while the work is under way, and the police Traffic Commander can grant a waiver of up to 24 hours.
