Parking and permits

Stanford rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.

Key rule: In Stanford, every vehicle needs authorization before entering Stanford University's central Pedestrian Zone and must display a PZ permit while driving or parking there, so a moving truck cannot simply pull up to a central-campus building.

Stanford is unincorporated, so Santa Clara County's Ordinance Code applies on public roads, alongside Stanford University's own campus parking rules. County code bans commercial vehicles rated 10,000 pounds or more from residential-district streets, bans leaving a vehicle on a highway for 72 hours or more, and prohibits noisy loading and unloading between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. On campus, all vehicles need authorization and a permit to enter the central Pedestrian Zone, resident student lots are enforced around the clock with one-day Resident permits for visitors, and garage height limits can change between levels.
