Indianapolis rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.
Key rule: In Indianapolis, trucks with more than two axles can't sit on a residential street for more than an hour, but the city code exempts household moving trucks while they are actually loading or unloading for the adjacent home.
In Indianapolis, the city-county code limits any vehicle to six hours on a public street without the abutting owner's or tenant's written consent, and limits trucks with more than two axles to one hour on residential streets, with an exemption for moving trucks actively loading or unloading. Private use of the street, such as reserving metered spaces or taking a curb lane, needs a right-of-way use permit from the Department of Business and Neighborhood Services, and moving property by moving van downtown between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. needs a permit from the traffic division. In snow, the mayor can ban parking on first-priority streets and switch other streets to odd/even-side parking.
