Parking and permits

Columbus rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.

Key rule: In Columbus, a trailer may be parked on the street beside its owner's or operator's home only to load or unload, for no more than three hours in any 24-hour period and not within 75 feet of an intersection.

Columbus bans storing recreational vehicles, trailers and commercial vehicles on streets in residential zones, but a trailer can sit in front of the owner's or operator's home for up to three hours in 24 to load or unload, and the parking chapter allows a reasonable time to load and unload. Using a parking space or sidewalk for something other than parking, or closing a street, needs a Request for Special Use of Right-of-Way approved by the Board of Public Works and Safety, and the city engineer can permit dumpsters in parking stalls. Temporary tow-away zones for snow removal and street sweeping are signed at least 24 hours ahead.
