Parking and permits

Brockton rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.

Key rule: In Brockton, a portable storage container (POD) needs a permit from the Inspectional Services Department before it can sit on a property, and in residential zones the permit runs for an initial 45 days.

Brockton's zoning code requires an Inspectional Services Department permit for any portable storage container on a property; in residential zones the permit covers one container for 45 days, can be extended once for up to 30 days, and the container may be no larger than 20 by 9 by 9 feet. From December 1 to April 1 the Traffic Commission's winter parking ban bars parking on the even-numbered side of most streets from midnight to 7 a.m., and a declared snow or weather emergency bans parking on every street. Blocking a sidewalk needs a permit from the chief of police, and a parked vehicle must leave a clear 10-foot lane for traffic.

Yes. The zoning code says no storage container may be stored or parked on a property without a permit from the Inspectional Services Department. How big can a storage container be?

In residential zones a portable storage container may be no more than 20 feet long, 9 feet wide and 9 feet high.

When is Brockton's winter parking ban?

From December 1 to April 1, between midnight and 7 a.m., there is no parking on the even-numbered side of streets (except streets already limited to one-side parking), and no parking on either side of a list of named streets.

What happens during a snow emergency?

If the Mayor or the Commissioner of Public Works declares an emergency snow or weather parking ban, there is no parking on any street for as long as the ban lasts.
