Parking and permits

Knoxville rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.

Key rule: In Knoxville, a truck or trailer wider than 80 inches may stand on a city street only as long as it takes to load or unload, and never more than two hours at a time, unless the department of public safety has issued a special permit.

Knoxville's City Code limits any truck, trailer or semitrailer wider than 80 inches to the time needed for loading or unloading on a city street, with a two-hour cap unless the department of public safety issues a special permit. Trucks over 18,000 pounds and trailers may not park on a street from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. unless they are actively loading or unloading or the driver is with the vehicle, and backing a vehicle to the curb to load needs a special permit. The city's temporary parking permit form lists an Outer District Project rate for dumpsters and moving, and downtown on-street parking is paid through ParkMobile from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

  • Trucks, trailers and large vehicles

A motor vehicle, trailer or semitrailer wider than 80 inches may stop, stand or park on a city street only as long as needed to load or unload, and no longer than two hours at a time, without a special permit from the department of public safety.
