Parking and permits

Katy rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.

Key rule: In Katy, a commercial vehicle over 10,000 pounds overall gross weight may not be parked or left standing on any street, public right-of-way or alley for longer than one hour.

Katy's code limits commercial vehicles over 10,000 pounds gross weight to one hour parked on any street, right-of-way or alley, and keeps them on marked truck routes except to deliver or pick up materials or merchandise by the nearest intersection. Trucks with a carrying capacity over one ton are covered by the truck-route division, single vehicles and trailers are capped at 40 feet long, and two downtown blocks have a two-hour daytime limit for vehicles and trailers. Property other than a vehicle left unattended for more than 48 hours on a street, alley or sidewalk falls under the city's impoundment article.
