Roanoke rules for moving trucks, trailers and containers.
Key rule: In Roanoke, a portable storage container or dumpster in the street or other public right-of-way needs a dumpster/container permit from Public Works, and the container company must sign the application.
In Roanoke, City Code Section 30-2 requires a Public Works dumpster/container permit for any dumpster or portable storage container placed in the public right-of-way, backed by $1 million in liability insurance naming the city, so the application goes through the container company. Commercial motor vehicles, as the code defines them, are limited to two hours on residential streets except while being loaded or unloaded, and no vehicle may stay parked on a street for more than 48 consecutive hours. In snow, the city asks residents on streets with parking on both sides to park only on the odd-numbered side.
