Key rule: In Salem, trucks, trailers and semitrailers may not be parked on any street or public place between 12:00 midnight and 6:00 a.m., except trucks of half-ton capacity or less.
In Salem, City Code Section 86-256 bans parking trucks, trailers and semitrailers on any street or public place from 12:00 midnight to 6:00 a.m., with an exception for trucks of half-ton capacity or less. Moving pods and portable storage units up to 20 feet long may sit in the driveway or rear yard of a residential property for no more than 30 days per calendar year with a zoning permit, while a container placed in a city street parking area needs a Right-of-Way Permit. Blocking a street or sidewalk needs a written permit from the city manager, and the west side of North Market Street between Clay and McClung streets is permit-only parking.
